From Marie (Marie of the Sacred Heart) to her father Mr. Martin. 25th November 1887.

Beloved Father,

I’m all enamoured with the Holy Father’s blessing. Ah! I’m not surprised he gave you special consideration. He who is the representative of Our Lord on earth must have been inspired by Him to understand you, O revered Father! He blessed your grey hair, he blessed your old age!... It seems to me it was Jesus Himself who blessed you and who gazed upon you! What a privilege it is to be able to squeeze his august hands in yours! There’s nothing more to see or taste in this world. I find that after that there’s nothing left but Heaven. But is that not a sweet [v°] image? O Father, how impatient I am to work and one day deserve Jesus’ special consideration, and also deserve to shake his hands in mine for eternity. Ah! What a radiant future is reserved for us! Heaven! Heaven. O unending joy! O being together for good, and Love’s eternal embrace.

See you soon darling Father.

Your diamond who’s all yours.

M. of the S. H.
