My little Céline,

A thousand times thank you for the little photographs… If only you had seen me looking at them! I was all alone and yet I could feel that my expression was entirely suited to the circumstances…

They are all ravishing, if only you could see what pretty pictures I’m making! For Our Darling Mother’s feast day, I’m hoping to make one for you, Léonie and Marie.

Don’t throw away the blemished photographs, I’ve found a way of hiding the blemishes with lily branches, it’s very graceful and the face is so beautiful!

My petit Célin1 don’t be cross with me, and from time to time send your little begging godmother some pretty little packets like yesterday’s.

[l v°] So Papa is about to return!... Tell us what day and time and whatever you do don’t fail to remember the details of his discharge so that you can give them to us…

That will make 3 years and 3 months. You can tell that Mother Geneviève is looking after this matter… for our poor Father and her alike, the number 3 is to her liking no doubt… May the Holy Trinity bless this return that seems to be so well presided over by God’s Adorable Will… Oh! how sweet it is to want nothing other than this divine will!

Farewell my little Céline, you are ready for your mission.

Your little beggar

Sr. Agnès of Jesus

[2r°] Thank Aunt and Uncle in my name and in that of Sr. Thérèse of the Child Jesus. I fear Sr. M. of the S. H. might not mention the gratitude we both feel.

Tell Aunt we are praying a novena for Mrs. de Frileuse. Thank her also for the two bottles of wine she sent us for the feast of the Good Shepherd (2nd Sunday after Easter, which was 1st May in 1892. The prioress was celebrated as the “Shepherdess” of the Community).
