Darling petit Célin1,

Mother Marie de Gonzague says you are sad! Darling, don’t cry! Jesus is with you and you are doing his will… oh, no! don’t be sad. Listen to what Holy Scripture says: “Do not give your soul up to sadness, and do not afflict yourself in your own counsel… A joyful heart is the life of man and a never failing treasure of holiness… Therefore go [1 v°] and eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart, for God approves what you do.”

Petit Célin, the last passage is for you, o yes! God approves your actions! They seem pointless to you, profitless to your soul, and comfortless. To you it seems that your hands are empty… have courage and may your heart be joyful for these actions, though they might seem like nothingness and which make you weep, are approved by God!

[2 r°] Farewell, Jesus’ dear little privileged one… I send you my kisses and love you tenderly.

Let us know as early as possible which day Francis is arriving and especially which day he is leaving due to our very pressing bread order.

Don’t forget to bring the 25 Fr. for the Holy Face [2 v°] as soon as possible. This money will do us a great deal of good for at the moment we are praying God to pull us out of poverty…

How tiring it is to have to look after the necessities of human life. Oh, earth is such a sad place!... But on thinking of Heaven, the soul can always smile.

May my little Marie take heart. We are praying for her. I would like, and even find it necessary, that she write to the parish priest of St. Jacques to inform him of her plans (Marie Guérin was intending to join the Carmel in turn. She would need to talk about it to Canon Delatroëtte, the parish priest of St. Jacques and Superior of the Carmel. Her entrance would be deferred two years for health reasons) and talk about the procedure but above all she mustn’t [2 v° tvl think she could face difficulties because she is our cousin… she should just write as she would to a former confessor recommending herself to his prayers, but she will soon find out how to go about it.

She would do well to send her letter in the post.
