Darling little Céline,

I have just received your last letter. How wonderful it is that Jesus came to comfort you. Ah! He is the best comforter for our exiled souls… My darling little daughter, let us grow accustomed to serving God in all life’s events… Our dispositions change very often but may our love not change and may our compass needle be invariably pointing in the direction of divine love. It doesn’t matter whether our souls are sad or happy, restless or calm, if we turn our eyes towards heaven, if we are always trusting, and if all earthly things [v°] appear contemptible to us….

Farewell darling little daughter, how I loved the letter you wrote me! I don’t deserve to be your little Mother and yet I was happy and touched by your filial affection….

Our little postulant has been accepted into the Community (Sister Marie-Madeleine of the Holy Sacrament). We must now set the date of the ceremony… So tell me simply whether it would be better to insist that Aunt be godmother. I’m afraid of hurting you, my petit Célin1, but I can’t help but find it would be better that way, especially as Uncle is godfather… Sr. Thérèse of the Child Jesus says it would be ridiculous having it any other way and I can tell that Mother M. de G. thinks so too. So write to me quickly so that I can make the request to Aunt. I hope I am not hurting you and that you would nevertheless be willing to dress my little daughter (make her wedding dress for the investiture ceremony. However, the “godmother” would ultimately be Mrs. de Virville.)

[v°tv] I send you my kisses my petit Célin and love you very very much.

Your little Mother
