My petit Célin1, I’ll think we’ll wait before having the Taking of the Habit (of Sister Marie-Madeleine of the Holy Sacrament, who had joined the Carmel on 2nd July 1892. The postulate for white-veiled Sisters lasted one year. The Investiture could therefore have taken place anytime after 22nd July. However, it was expected that Mr. Guérin, who had accepted to be her “godfather”, would lead her down the aisle in a bridal gown according to the custom of the time. As the Guérins were to stay at La Musse from 27th June to 18th August, the ceremony was postponed until 7th September) but Fr. Youf must not see any obstacles to this. I am delighted that Uncle is happy to be my little daughter’s godfather!... and that the whole family is looking forward to attending the celebration…

But tell me, is it not inconsiderate of me not inviting Aunt to be godmother? I’m afraid of hurting her. But not counting on Uncle’s acceptance hadn’t crossed my mind.

Farewell, my darling, your cherries were so lovely!... as was your gingerbread.

I do believe the bigarreaux (a type of firm-fleshed cherry) that I received today are to repay me for the trouble of mentioning them so often in the visiting room so that you could hear what Léonie was confiding to us (Céline and Léonie had gone together to the visiting room to see their Carmelite sisters).

[v° tv] Come at 3 o’clock on Wednesday. Sr. Marie of the Sacred Heart thanks you, she sends you all her love and so do I.

Sr. Agnès of Jesus
