Little Céline,
I wish you a happy birthday… 22 years old! That is still very young! But God has aged your soul with the weight of his cross!
Ah! The older I become the more I see that we are all Jesus’ chosen ones, and you in particular, because it is to you that he has given the heaviest part of [1 v°] this huge cross!
In earthly terms your life is indeed broken. You can see happiness, and see it from up close, but no human happiness, however pure it may be, has the right to even brush against your heart again.
Your heart is a little sanctified flower (Céline had taken a vow of chastity on 8th December 1889); it now belongs to Jesus forever! A few years ago, it’s true it was a flower, but not a consecrated flower. It [2 r°] needed the wind of trial to break it and give it wings. Now the little flower is planted in the Heart of Jesus. It no longer draws the sap it needs to feed itself from the earth, it sees earth from above! It is as if it has left a perishable and miserable tent for the most brilliant of palaces. O little Céline, yes you are near heaven and far, far from earth. [2 v°] At 22 years of age you know a great deal about life! Ah! you know everything. You have known trials, suffering, and exile of the heart! Poor little flower! But that is also the reason you have kept your perfume. As long as you suffer, you will exhale the virginal perfume and far from aging, you will grow younger; your corolla will be increasingly fresh, and at last worthy of the Celestial Spouse. Then angels shall sing: “Come to us young girl, my crown is missing a shining pearl, says the Lord, so we have all run with our white wings to [2v° tv] carry you away from the world, like a flock of birds plucking a flower from the branches.”
And Céline, the little flower, will be forever planted in Heaven, in the virginal meadows, only to be trampled upon by the feet of the divine Lamb… there where the flowers sing, because in Heaven all things sing! O prairies! O song! O happiness… you are well worth a few tears!
Farewell my petit Célin1, I send you my kisses and can’t tell you enough how much I love you.
Sr. Agnès of Jesus
