From Brother Simeon to Sister Geneviève (Extracts.)

January 25, 1897

Rome, January 25, 1897

Very dear Sisters' in Our Lord,

The Indulgence for your dear Doyenne's Golden Jubilee is in my hands. I dared ask for and obtained the same blessing to be granted to the Very Reverend Mother Superior, her religious, and those assisting at the celebration. Sister Saint Stanislaus will be doubly happy! One is so blessed to please.

I just read over again the splendid poem of your admirable sister. It is a sublime song which could have been on the lips of the Great St. Teresa!! My confreres argue about this, but they are making copies of it. I shall send it to one of my nieces, Superior of Bon Pasteur at Lyons, who will enjoy it and benefit from it. I am convalescing from a serious illness lasting five months. In the month of June last, I had an attack of paralysis that impaired the entire left side of my person. This paralysis was creeping paralysis, and it brought me to the edge of the grave. I was given the last sacraments, there was no longer any hope. For the last two months

I am better, but only gradually, slowly. I am eighty-three, and one heals with difficulty at this age. I submit myself to God's holy will, to all He wills from His poor, very poor servant. Pray for me, dear Sisters, and have your companions pray for me. I can depend on it, can I not?

I thank you for the beautiful photograph you sent; its arrangement is very attractive and the personages could not have been better chosen!" My compliments. I recognized you.

Ask Madame, your very Reverend Superior, to accept my humble regards, as well as your good companions. Tell your holy Sister I am praying for her recovery. Pray for your very devoted servant,

Brother Simeon
