From Pauline to Marie. April or beginning of August 1877.

Céline boarder care of Miss Marie Martin 36 rue St. Blaise – Alençon. 1st class.

The 2nd Class is composed of a charming little pupil named Thérèse who laughs and enjoys herself from morning till night. However the dedicated care that Miss Marie Martin shows her every day will eventually I hope develop her intelligence which, after having produced nothing but mischief, will become bedecked with all the qualities worthy of a superior genius.

(P. S) I would be very happy Miss Marie Martin if you would be so kind as to admit a new pupil to your charming boarding school. You have known her for a long time. As her health has not allowed her to finish her studies, one of her teachers advised her to turn to you, Miss Martin, in order to complete her education which, under your care and solicitude, will come to an end under the happiest auspices.

Accept, Miss Martin, my esteem and consideration. Pauline who dares to call herself your pupil and darling little sister.
